Realistic truths I've learned as a business owner

Welp, first official post that isn’t an introduction. For this newsletter, I will try to keep my ideas within 5 bullet points. Something concise and easy to read. I could deviate from time to time, but you can mostly expect this format from me.

  • Starting tomorrow is never going to happen - This is something we always tell ourselves. “I’ll start that workout tomorrow” or “I’ll put together that business plan on Monday”. The more you put if off, the more it just isn’t going to materialize. Today is the day. Period.

  • Nobody is coming to save you - Some people have more privilege than other. Just a fact of life. That being said, nobody really gives a shit that you aren’t happy with where you are. That is kind of liberating though. We spend a lot of time thinking about what others will thing about us for doing something, but the truth is, you really aren’t that important. You’re giving yourself way too much credit. Just do the thing you’ve been planning. Fuck what other think about it.

  • The beginning almost always sucks - You are almost certainly going to fail 100 times before you succeed. This is the unfortunate truth. Deal with it. Pushing to the other side is what successful people do.

  • Failures can almost always be traced back to yourself, but that’s okay - If the business you just started is failing, it’s probably you. Matter of fact it’s almost ALWAYS you. Look yourself in the mirror and be honest with yourself. Hold yourself accountable.

  • Building good habits is key - It’s crazy that it only takes 365 days to completely change your life. Most people can’t stick with a gym membership passed January 15th. Challenge yourself to executing 5 deliverables for 100 days straight. NO EXCEPTIONS. You will be 100% better off on the other side.
