How to Conquer Imposter Syndrome

Ah, self-doubt. An entrepreneurs worst nightmare and unfortunately at the beginning, some of their most reoccurring thought center around doubting themselves.
Imposter Syndrome is one of the biggest things that holds most people back. “Why the hell would anyone listen to me?” or, “Who is going to buy this from me?”. It’s a problem as old as time, and besides the folks that are just born with reckless self confidence, we all come to cross paths with it at one point or another. I know a few of the people who have graciously subscribed to this newsletter personally and I happen to know that some of you also wrestle with this. I’m going to tell you how I beat it and I hope it helps you on your journey.
You’re going to die: This one is a hard one to come to terms with, or at least it was for me. When thinking about this, I used to tend to be a bit more nihilistic about it. Like “If I’m going to die anyways, what’s really the point?”. I felt that way in the back of my head for a long time. What brought me out of it was the thought “Jesus Christ, I’m actually going to die one day”. After that, I posed the inverse question “If I’m going to die anyways, why not accomplish something?”. The fact is, we all have a date with destiny one day, and that should give you all the fuel to live every day trying to push yourself over the top of your goals. Who knows, you might even feel a little accomplished.
Success really isn’t that complicated: I’ve said this before. Success is literally all about consistency. Consistency builds all of the necessary tools to get good at something. Instead of paralyzing yourself with self doubt, just simplify things. You have a goal, what task can you do every day to get closer to that goal? No do that for 100 days straight. No compromises. I guarantee you’ll see the results you are seeking.
People are just people: Gary Vee is just a dude. Elon Musk is just a dude. Oprah Winfrey is just a lady. Nothing more, nothing less. Stop idolizing people and really just see that all they are is human beings with their own struggles, trials, and insecurities. Your favorite creator, your favorite athlete, your favorite internet personality; all just people living in the same world as you.
Money is literally everywhere: An old business partner of mine said this to me, and it stuck with me. It’s true. Any business is a numbers game. Think about it this way; there are 350 Million people in the United States. If you can get only 100,000 of them to spend $10 with you in one year, congratulations, you are now a millionaire and you only captured 0.03% of the market.
Nobody actually cares: First of all, who actually gives a fuck what your high school and college classmates think? With that being said though, they don’t. People are too busy with their own lives to care about yours. Plus, they aren’t paying your bills or getting you any closer to your dreams. It’s a little cliche, but stop caring what other people think.
